October 18th - 22nd , 2021
Greetings Kings Family:
LEARNS is in operation right after school until 6pm on all early release days! The Schedule of classes has changed for that week.
Monday, October 25, 2021: Regular School day
Tuesday, October 26, 2021: 12:30-6pm
Wednesday, October 27, 2021: 12:30-6pm
Thursday, October 28, 2021: 12:30-6pm
Friday, October 29, 2021: No School
All enrichment classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will start at 1pm except for Art, BEAM, and Computer Science. Please remember students can not leave campus and come back. If your student is not registered for a certain day and you need them to be in the after school program it's totally fine for that week. If you have any other questions, please let me know.
SCHEDULE
- We still have some classes that are open. If your student is interested in Yoga, Makerlab, or BEAM. Please let me know.
Yoga: Monday 3:15-4:15pm
Middle schoolers, let's breathe and stretch together to help us get through these challenging times! Way to Glow Kids Yoga classes incorporate practicing yoga poses, breathing exercises, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques. Benefits of yoga include reducing stress, supporting your health and immune system, and improving strength, flexibility, concentration, and balance. It's helpful to have a yoga mat but not necessary. All you need for this class is a space where you can stretch out your body and mind!
MakerLab: Tuesday/Thursday 3:15-4:15pm
Interested in hands-on design or making things with your hands? Join the King Afterschool MakerLab!
Come design 3D models, edit videos, make cardboard buildings, record digital music, and more!
BEAM: Tuesday 5-6pm/Friday 4-5pm
BEAM fuses science education with mentorship by leading weekly hands-on science and engineering lessons. This semester our mentors are excited to share our new lessons covering topics like marine life dynamics, renewable energy, computer science, and more! Every week is something new, and we can't wait to spend time showing students what engineering and science are all about!

SPORTS:
Our LEARNS Sports Program has been given the green light to start our Fall sports! As discussed in the parent meeting, there were 2 proposals presented on how to start:
1) run all of our Fall sports as intramurals and keep students on their respective campuses competing against each other or
2) run our Fall sports as "normal", but only compete against Longfellow, Willard, and Head Royce (at home only).
District administration has accepted proposal #2, so we will be setting up a game/meet schedule with the aforementioned schools. Stay tuned for further announcements regarding game schedules. PLEASE NOTE...NO STUDENTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO TRYOUT OR PRACTICE WITHOUT ALL OF THE MEDICAL FORMS COMPLETED AND ON FILE WITH OUR LEARNS OFFICE (B1). MASKS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES FOR TRYOUTS, PRACTICES, MEETS/GAMES.
PLEASE REMEMBER ALL STUDENTS WILL MEET AT THE AMPHITHEATER AND THEN WILL BE EXCUSED TO THEIR RESPECTIVE SPORTS. ANY SPORTS RELATED QUESTION YOU CAN ALWAYS CONTACT FRED SIMS AT: [email protected]
Basketball Conditioning (outdoors/blacktop)
Tue., 9/7 (3:15 - 4:15pm)
Thu., 9/9 (3:15 - 4:15pm)
Tennis (King Tennis Courts)
Wed., 9/8 (3:15 - 4:15pm) 7th/8th Grade
Mondays will be for 6th graders and Wednesdays will be for 7th/8th graders. Right now our Friday doubles matches have been prohibited as a mitigation measure for covid. Once we gain clearance our Friday tennis team matches will resume.
Girls Volleyball
We have to postpone the start of Girls Volleyball for one more week to allow for the necessary upgrades to be done to the gym ventilation system and also for our outdoor Volleyball setup to arrive. Revised dates to reflect this change and announce next week's schedule will be sent out at the end of this week.
Flag Football (King Lower Field)
Our Varsity team will be for 7th/8th graders and our JV will exclusively be for 6th graders only. Rosters to be finalized on Friday, 9/9.
Varsity Tryout: Because try out starts at 3:30pm on Wednesday and this is an early release day your student must be somewhere in LEARNS. They may take an enrichment class or academics. Students may not leave campus and come back for tryouts. Plan accordingly with LaShonda.
